Yogyakarta is an excellent example of “classic city” of Indonesia with outstanding historical and cultural heritage. Yogyakarta was the centre of the Javanese Mataram Dynasty (1575-1640), and up to present era, sultan's palace (kraton) retains its social and political functions in the everyday life of Yogyakarta. Yogyakarta has numerous thousand-year-old temples, legacies of the great ancient kingdoms, such as Borobudur temple that is established in the ninth century by the dynasty of Syailendra.
In addition to the cultural heritages, Yogyakarta has beautiful natural panorama. The green rice fields in the suburban areas with the majestic Mount Merapi as a background create a mesmerizing view to behold. Southern areas of Yogyakarta offer series of beautiful beaches and excellent sunset.
